After- School Program
“Introduction to Puppetry”
Puppets have been enchanting the young and old, alike, in The United States for quite some time. They not only serve as entertainment, but as invaluable mediums for teaching and even therapy. This 4 week course introduces K-5ers to the performance and theatrical aspects of this art, while providing them with the skills necessary to pursue puppetry as a hobby.
Class Overview:
Session 1: - Brief history of puppetry in America - Puppetry Techniques (lip sync, eye contact, form etc.) - Puppet Aerobics (kids participate in technique exercises!) - Tips on Comedy Writing
Session 2: - Explanation and demonstration of the different types of puppets - Review of puppetry techniques - Demo- character voices for puppets - Kids break up into small groups and work with the different kinds of puppets and practice character voices - Puppet Aerobics
Session 3: - Back Stage Tour - Stage construction and performance safety tips - Puppet construction (kids make a simple puppet) - Students are divided into performance groups and rehearse songs and jokes.
Session 4: - Showtime! (Kids bring puppets back to class to perform a show with their group for all to enjoy!) - Certificates & Awards
Students will be provided with informational handouts to take home at each session.
